The Kids First Board members spoke many times on the campaign trail about improving teacher pay to make the district more competitive. They are already actively working towards this goal by hiring teacher pay advocate Erin Kane as the Superintendent, setting a new salary schedule, and investigating the viability of a Bond/MLO for the 2022 election. Although it seems unlike conservatives to vote for a tax increase, we can all agree that Douglas County needs to remain competitive in every area.
I cannot think of any reason they wouldn’t want success of the board and superintendent, academic excellence in our schools, and teacher pay increases.
Many of us have had the pleasure of listening to one of Erin Kane’s passionate presentations about how important this is for our district. Even after the former board passed on her continued employment in 2018 after two fantastic years of interim superintendent service, she continued to visit homes all over Douglas County advocating for teacher pay.
Teachers please ask yourselves this - if the new board is actively working towards teacher pay raises, why would the union and minority board members continually try to tear them down online, in the media, and in board meetings? If the new slate of conservative board members is able to pass teacher pay raises, it will only solidify trust in conservative leadership in the future. I cannot think of any reason they wouldn’t want success of the board and superintendent, academic excellence in our schools, and teacher pay increases. Unless of course, they only want these things if THEY are in charge when it happens.
